But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 2Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. 3And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 4For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. I Kings 11:1-4
King Soloman with all his wisdom could not defend himself against his weakness for strange women. He had 1,000 lovers and because he had so many to love his heart was turned from God. What are we married to? What has our hearts, God or the cares of this world? If we listed the things that we enjoy in this world many of us could match the list of Soloman's wives and concubines.
Television is not the problem but our faithfulness to our favorite shows can be. Sports is not the problem but our devotion to players and teams can be. The Internet is not the problem but our addiction to our favorite social website can be. Cellphones are not the problem but our constant need to use them can be. All this things are made not to have rule over us but for us to enjoy them in moderation. When we are addicted to things we worship things. We are enjoined to things and we turn our hearts from God. We are probed to abusing things that were created and We then neglect the Creator.
Solomon clave unto these in love
Soloman was not a fool but he was wise. He was the richest person in the world and his heart was driven to serve God. When we got old all those unhealthy relationships caught up with him. When I was young I could eat anything I wanted but as I have grown older how I treat my body catches up to me. What I put in me affects what comes out of me. So the question is are we feeding the spirit or the flesh? When we allow our fleshy desires to be continually be fed our spiritual desire for God is empty and we turn away from Him and become a slave to our lusts. That is what Soloman did. He fed his desire for loving his wives that eventually began to worship false gods. He was enslaved to his desires to love his wives instead of God.
When we love our shows, our social websites, our cellphones, our sports we will eventually find ourselves enslaved to serving them. We can't miss one episode we can't miss the game, we can't miss the text message, we are enslaved to the creation and it is impossible to serve the Creator as long as we are in bondage. We love these things so much that we are willing to sacrifice our relationship with God to stay married to them. This is a hard blog for me to write. God has spoken to me numerous times about different things that are in my life that turn me from Him and I can see the affect those things have on me the question I must answer is will I separate from my (wives) so that I can remain faithful to God? If is not enough to have all wisdom and be seperated from the Presence of God for my fellowship with my desire. Pray for me as I pray for you. God bless you.
9And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, 10And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. I Kings 11:9-10
